The case of the botched balloon procedure
One sunny fall day, Wendy went with her husband to her cardiologist for a routine check-up for her heart. The doctor told her she needed an outpatient procedure to open up the arteries in her heart. Following the procedure, the doctor ordered blood thinner medications to be given by the hospital staff. Unfortunately, the blood thinners were never given and Wendy began suffering from clotting of the arteries. Even though she was rushed back into the catheterization room, the doctor was unable to save her. After Wendy?? s unexpected death, her family had many questions about what happened and why. However, the hospital refused to provide a complete copy of the medical records or to answer their questions. The Girards Law Firm investigated and found that not only had Wendy not received the necessary blood thinner medication, but the procedure was not required in the first place. After aggressively pursuing the case in court, the doctor and hospital were forced to reach a settlement with the family sufficient to satisfy the family that a similar incident would not happen to any other patient.
