The case of the hot water
Early one morning, Steve was awakened by a loud bang coming from his kitchen. He got out of bed and got behind his walker and made his way to the kitchen, only to find that a hot water line under his sink had burst. Suddenly Steve slipped and fell in the hot water and was unable to either get out of it or turn the water off. To make matters worse, the apartment complex had turned the heat on the hot water heater far above recognized standards, resulting in Steve suffering severe burns over a large portion of his body. Steve died as a result of those burns a few days later at a local hospital. The Girards Law Firm investigated the incident and determined that the apartment complex had misadjusted the hot water heater, and failed to maintain the hot water lines under the sink. Moreover, the firm determined that the hot water line under the sink was defectively designed. While no amount of money was going to bring Steve back, the case was settled on the second day of trial for an amount that satisfied the family that justice had been done.
