Q:
Does it matter if I didn't seek medical attention right away after my trucking collision?

A:

Believe it or not, how long it takes you to get treated for your injuries can have an impact on your trucking collision case.

One of the main hurdles in a trucking collision case is dealing with the insurance companies. Truckers' insurance adjusters handle these cases all of the time and they will look for any and every reason to pay you less than you deserve, or even not at all. If they find out you waited to seek medical attention, they will try to prove that if you were truly injured, you would have gone to the doctor or hospital right away. The longer you go without getting treatment, the more you can hurt your case.

Another thing to keep in mind is that now that you have seen a doctor, you may be able to make up for some lost time and help build your case back up. If they recommended that you see any specialists or other doctors, make sure you set up those appointments as soon as possible. Don't just make appointments, either— keep them. If the insurance companies see that you frequently cancel appointments, they will use that against you as well. Show that you are doing everything in your power to get well after your trucking collision.

It is not uncommon for people to wait to seek medical attention; some think the pain will go away, while others have symptoms that surface hours or even days after the incident. If you were injured in a trucking collision caused by someone else, you still deserve fair compensation for your injuries, and that is where Girards Law can help.  Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas residents can call us today for a free consultation at 888.897.2762
