According to the March 2020 issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, COVID-19 has significant implications for the cardiovascular care of patients:

1) Those with COVID-19 and preexisting cardiovascular disease (CVD) have an increased risk of severe disease and death;

2) Infection has been associated with multiple complications including acute myocardial injury, myocarditis, arrhythmias and venous thromboembolism;

3) Therapies under investigation for COVID-19 may have cardiovascular side effects; and

4) The response to COVID-19 can compromise the rapid triage of non-COVID-19 patients who have cardiovascular conditions.

If you or a loved one has pre-existing cardiovascular disease, it is even more important to self-isolate until the pandemic has passed.
