The US Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has recently issued if annual report on Large Truck and Bus Crashes. The 118-page document covers a lot of data from collision reports nationwide. A summary of some of the key findings are these:

The Number of large trucks and buses  involved in fatal crashes in 2020:

Increase in fatal truck crashes 2010-2020:

31%

Percent of fatal crashes involving intercity buses:

11%

Number of injuries in large truck crashes in 2020:

101,000

Percent fatal crashes in rural areas:

54%

Percent fatal crashes on interstate highways:

27%

Percent of fatal crashes occurring during the work week:

82%

Percent of fatal crashes occurring at night:

37%

Number of fatal large truck crashes per million people in 2020:

13.49

Percent of fatalities in large truck crashes who were not occupants of the large truck:

90%

Number of large trucks involved in injury crashes in 2020:

45,900

Percent of large truck crashes caused by loss of control or careless movement of the large truck by its driver:
