The real problem with healthcare costs is the multi-million dollar frauds that occur with more frequency than we care to think about. To follow-up on the recent blog post about a $400+ million medicare fraud sting operation is this story of a Sugarland TX physician named Donald Gibson, II, MD who is now going to spend 52 months in the hoosegow and pay the feds $7M in restitution. It turns out that he was paying patients to appear for testing they didn't need and then billed medicare for it. His operation was paid over $19M from 2007 to 2012 by Medicare and Texas Medicaid.
