Tesla has marketed their cars as having an "autopilot", which we have been saying for years in dangerously misleading because driver-assist technology is not an "autopilot." Consumers have been mislead and deaths have occurred when drivers treated the system as an auto-piloted self-driving car when it is not that. Now, according to Bloomberg News, Tesla is being investigated for possible violation of criminal laws by the US Department of Justice's Washington and San Francisco offices as a result of statements made by executives about the cars' self-driving capabilities. Tesla is scheduled for its first jury trial in February resulting from a driver fatality blamed on the driver-assistance system beleived by that driver to be an "autopilot."
