The recent 18-wheeler crash near Terrell, Texas resulted in five fatalities, with a sixth victim dying later from injuries. The crash happened on Interstate 20 when the truck driver, Alexis Osmani Gonzalez-Companioni, 27, fell asleep at the wheel and failed to see stalled traffic, causing his semi-truck to hit a Ford F-150 and then push into two other 18-wheelers. One of those trucks jack-knifed and struck additional passenger vehicles, leading to a multi-vehicle pileup involving seven vehicles in total. The crash left five people dead and several others injured, including a survivor still in ICU as of the latest reports.

Gonzalez-Companioni has been charged with five counts of manslaughter for admitting to falling asleep while driving. Federal investigators are examining driver fatigue as a key factor in the crash.

The trucking company involved in the crash has been identified as Hope Trans LLC, a Florida-based carrier. This company is now under scrutiny following the deadly accident.

This tragic event drew attention to the dangers of driver fatigue in the trucking industry and the severe consequences when it leads to accidents on highways such as I-20 near Terrell.
