Baylor Surgeon says he is a Stone Cold Killer
By James Girards.
One reason that a hospital should be responsible for the conduct of its staff is to protect patients when the hospital is in the best position to identify problems before they reach the patient's bedside. In this latest post about the Baylor-Duntsch tragedy, we highlight an email that Duntsch sent to his surgical assistant in early December 2011. Baylor didn't have a system in place to require reporting of alarming, dangerous, or bizarre behavior that might impact patient care. Here, the Baylor surgical assistant admits she did not report - but would have if required - the email if there was a procedure for that. In the email, Duntsch self-identifies as a stone cold killer. The glaring question is why no one at Baylor did anything to stop this doctor before he killed and maimed. The full email can be reviewed by clicking here.
