Hospitals are protected by special laws and secrecy. But, why? Here is an example why we should change that. Here, the FDA issues recall notice over children's ventilators that have defective software in January 2013. It seems that the ventilators can kill babies because the oxygen consumption was miscalculated. So, when was the last time a frightened parent of a newborn asked the nurses, "so, what software version do you have in that machine that is keeping my baby alive?" Patients should be empowered. And, hospitals should not be secret places.
