Multiple 18-Wheelers Crash in West Texas
On October 28, 2022, multiple 18-wheelers crashed into one another along Interstate 20 in West Texas.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, an eastbound 18-wheeler driving on I-20 near Eastland, Texas lost control and crossed the grassy median into the westbound lanes, crashing into another 18-wheeler. A third truck to hit the first two igniting a fire and causing serious injuries.
In 2020, 4,842 large trucks were involved in a fatal crash and accounted for 9% of all vehicles involved in fatal crashes and 10% of total vehicle miles traveled. Also in 2020, 107,000 large trucks were involved in crashes resulting in an injury. A total of 4,965 people died in large truck crashes in 2020.
