According to a study published in the January 17, 2013 edition of the New England Journal of Medicine, use of checklists during crises in the surgical suite reduced errors by 75%. And, 97% of the participants in the study said they wanted to start using those checklists in their own surgery practices. When combined with pre-operative surgical checklists, this presents a major move forward in patient safety.
