Study shows hospitals profit heavily from surgical complications, according to new study in April issue of JAMA.

This study shows that Quality Improvement is a cost center for hospitals.  This may explain why hospital industry is so far behind other industries in adopting routine Safety Principles proven effective in aviation and manufacturing sectors.
