When the nation's heart-surgeons leadership say too many people die during heart bypass surgery, it is worthy of attention. At a recent conference the leadership says that 2% of heart bypass patients die when it should only be 1%. For reference, heart interventions such as stenting have only a 1% mortality. Process and system improvements are needed, according to the group.
