USDOT declares IL Truck Driver Imminent Hazard
Comments (0)
USDOT declared Illinois-licensed truck driver to be an imminent hazard to public safety after a crash that killed two. Investigators found that Velasquez violated hours-of-service regulations and falsified his logbooks. For 26-hours during Jan. 26-27, Velasquez operated a tractor-trailer for approximately 1,000 miles, only resting between 3-1/2 to 5-1/2 hours - woefully short of the required rest period. Velasquez ended up crashing into an Illinois State Police car with its emergency lights on and an Illinois Tollway vehicle with an activated warning arrow, outside of Naperville, Illinois.
Inset: deceased Tollway Worker Vincent Petrella
