CANADIAN (July 8, 2014) Fernando Ortiz, 56, and his wife, Leticia Ortiz, 49, both of Spearman, TX died at the scene of a collision Monday evening in Ochiltree County north of Canadian in the northeast corner of the Panhandle.The two were northbound on U.S. Highway 83 in a Chevrolet Equinox when Fernando Ortiz attempted to turn left onto FM 281 and pulled into the path of the southbound 18-wheeler, according to a DPS spokesperson. The driver of the truck, Billy Gene Schwandt, 49, of Johnson City, Tenn., was not injured.
